Privacy Policy
Instasize Inc. ("Instasize," "we," "us") makes Sumi: PDF Document Scanner ("Sumi"). This policy explains what Sumi does with your documents and the limited information it collects.
In short: Sumi scans, cleans up, reads and names your documents on your iPhone. Your scans, their text, your signatures and the names Sumi gives them are never uploaded to us or to our service providers. Sumi has no ads and no account. It does send anonymous usage statistics and, if you subscribe, purchase information, as described below. Neither ever includes your documents.
Your scanned documents
Sumi processes your documents on your device, including text recognition and naming. Apple Intelligence runs on the device too. Your documents are stored:
- in the app, on your iPhone;
- as PDF copies in the Files app, under On My iPhone › Sumi, while "Keep PDFs in Files" is on in Sumi's Settings;
- in your iPhone's on-device Search index while "Show in Spotlight" is on in Sumi's Settings, so you can find them by name or by their text. ID cards are found by name only;
- in your device backups, such as iCloud Backup, if you use them, under Apple's terms.
A document leaves Sumi only when you share, export, print or save it, or when you tap a phone number, email address, link or address that Sumi found in it, which opens the matching app.
Information we collect
Usage statistics
Sumi uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count how its features are used. For example, it records that a scan was saved, a PDF was shared, a signature was placed or a search was made, along with counts and settings such as the number of pages or whether a PDF had a password. These events never contain document content, titles, file names, recognized text or what you searched for. Firebase also receives an app-instance identifier, app and device information (such as app version, iOS version, device model and language) and an approximate region derived from your IP address. Sumi doesn't collect your device's advertising identifier.
Purchases
If you start a free trial or subscribe to Sumi Pro, Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your payment card details. RevenueCat receives the transaction and subscription status, an anonymous app user ID and your device's vendor identifier, so Sumi can unlock Pro and restore your purchases.
The Pro offer
When Sumi shows its Pro offer, Superwall receives which offer was shown and how you interacted with it, an anonymous identifier, your device's vendor identifier, device information (such as model, iOS version, locale, time zone and app version) and an approximate region and city derived from your IP address.
Support
If you email us, we receive your message and the contact details you choose to send.
None of this information is linked to your name or email address, because Sumi has no account.
How we use information
We use it to understand which features are used and improve Sumi, provide and restore Sumi Pro, show and improve the Pro offer, answer support requests, prevent fraud and comply with the law.
What we don't do
- We don't receive or store your documents.
- We don't sell personal information.
- We don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Service providers
Google (Firebase Analytics), RevenueCat, Superwall and Apple process information on our behalf, as described above, under their own terms and privacy policies.
Retention
We keep usage statistics only as long as needed to understand and improve Sumi, then delete them. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for your subscription, accounting and legal obligations. Support messages are kept as long as needed to resolve your request.
Your choices
- Allow or deny camera access in your iPhone's Settings. You can also import photos and files instead.
- Turn off "Keep PDFs in Files" and "Show in Spotlight" in Sumi's Settings.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings.
- Delete documents in Sumi, or remove the app to delete everything stored in it.
- For questions or requests about your information, email support@instasize.com. Because the information we hold isn't linked to your name, we may ask for details, such as a purchase receipt, to find it.
Children
Sumi isn't directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date.
