Edge detection and cleanup
Live edge detection, auto-capture and perspective correction, for camera scans and imported photos alike. Shadow removal and clean white paper, for one page or all of them.
Sumi: PDF Document Scanner
Sumi turns paper into clean, searchable PDFs. It finds the edges, cleans up the page, reads the text and names the scan for you, all on your iPhone. No ads, no watermarks, no account.
Coming soon on the App Store
For iPhone, iOS 26 or later. Free to download, with an optional Sumi Pro subscription.
Four steps, and Sumi does most of the work.
Point your iPhone at the page. Sumi finds the edges, captures the page on its own and keeps going for multi-page documents. You can also import photos and PDFs.
Shadows go and the paper turns white, or pick the Original, Gray or B&W look. Crop with a magnifier, rotate, reorder, and add or delete pages.
Text recognition runs on your iPhone. Sumi names the scan from what's printed on it, like “Salt Meadow Coffee Receipt”, and files it as a receipt, invoice, letter or another kind.
Send a searchable PDF, JPEG pages, text or CSV, print it, or save it to Files. Choose Auto, Letter, A4 or Legal pages, and see the file size before you send.
Everything below is free, with no limits. The three Sumi Pro tools are further down.
Live edge detection, auto-capture and perspective correction, for camera scans and imported photos alike. Shadow removal and clean white paper, for one page or all of them.
On-device text recognition adds the text of every page to the PDF, so you can search, select and copy it in any PDF viewer. Read the text of a page in Sumi, or export it as .txt or CSV.
No more “Untitled scan”. Sumi names each document from what's printed on it and recognizes receipts, invoices, letters, IDs and more, so you can filter your library by kind.
Totals, dates, phone numbers, emails, links and addresses are pulled out of the text. Tap one to call, open a map, add it to your calendar or copy it.
Search your library by any word printed on a document. Spotlight finds your documents too, and shows ID cards by name only, so their details stay out of system search.
Every document is also a PDF in the Files app, under On My iPhone › Sumi, organized in your folders. Turn off “Keep PDFs in Files” in Settings if you'd rather not.
Require Face ID or Touch ID to open Sumi. The lock covers the app. The PDF copies in Files and the Spotlight entries stay outside it, and you can turn both off.
Scan a document, scan an ID card, import photos or search your documents from Siri, the Shortcuts app or a Home Screen quick action.
Folders, filters by kind, merge, split pages into a new document and duplicate. Deleted documents wait in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
Scanning, cleanup, text recognition and naming happen on your iPhone. Your scans, their text, your signatures and the names Sumi gives them are never uploaded to us or to our service providers.
